How far can the skills you learn at Dakota State take you? For Troy Sessions, all the way to the bottom of the Grand Canyon 🏜️.

The Trojan senior spent much of his summer working in the remote Havasupai Tribe community in Arizona, applying technology and project management skills developed through his DSU coursework.

It was an opportunity to take what he learned in the classroom and put it to work in a unique, real-world environment.

A new era of research and collaboration is taking shape in Sioux Falls.

Dakota State University’s new Applied Research Lab is nearing completion, bringing research, training, digital forensics, and collaborative spaces together under one roof.

The facility will expand opportunities for DSU students and researchers while creating new ways to work alongside government, law enforcement, and industry partners. The goal: put DSU expertise to work solving real-world challenges while strengthening South Dakota’s workforce and economy.

Yesterday, Dakota State’s Department of Residence Life hosted Trojans Take the Lake, an annual event in which students had fun and explored Lake Herman State Park! 🚣

Dakota State’s role in national security starts with education, advances through applied research, and continues through the highly skilled professionals we prepare for the workforce. Today, DSU and the Dakota State University Applied Research Corporation (DARC) had the opportunity to share that work with Senate Majority Leader John Thune, Senator Mike Rounds, and the Honorable Michael A. Obadal, Under Secretary of the Army.

Join us for the 2026 History & Ethics Forum featuring historian Dr. Jon K. Lauck. In his keynote, “Findings and Foundings: The Search for Roots in a Placeless Age,” Dr. Lauck will explore the history of the Midwest and South Dakota, the importance of place and belonging, and how emerging technologies are helping make our shared history accessible to new generations.

Yesterday's TrojanFest was filled with students connecting, exploring, and discovering new ways to make the most of life at Dakota State.

Getting involved in a club or organization is a great way to meet fellow Trojans, build connections, try something new, and find your place on campus. And if you didn’t get a chance to stop by Trojan Fest, it’s not too late to get involved.

Find a club or organization that interests you, reach out, and jump in. Your DSU experience is what you make of it—and there’s a place for you here.

TrojanFest was also a great opportunity for students looking for part-time work! Thanks to our Career & Professional Development Office, local employers joined us to connect with Trojans throughout the event and left encouraged by the number of students eager to work.
