From Dr. Drexler:

The Arkansas Archeological Society's local chapter meets tomorrow at 5pm in Bruce 104 (underneath Subway). This month's meeting will focus on the history of the Mississippian Period here in southwest Arkansas, which is a time when people developed agriculture, built massive religious complexes, invented some of the most beautiful pottery in the history of the planet, and so much more. Come join us and hear about what life was like during that time. We'll have some of our artifacts from sites around the area that date to the period out on display.

Also, this is the last bit of time before the Europeans show up and things get... tumultuous (to be very understated). That's a story for next month.

Dr. Paige Ford speech this Wednesday at 5PM at the Reynolds Center (Magnolia Room). Hope to see everyone there.

Below text from Dr. Drexler has more information:

Hi Folks,

Need a break from your finals preparation but to still feel like you're learning something so you can rest assured you're not wasting your time? How about coming out to hear about archeological research on Plum Bayou Mounds, located just outside of Little Rock? It's one of the earliest mound sites in the Southeast, and is categorically better than the others because it's in Arkansas. We (the Arkansas Archeological Survey and Arkansas Archeological Society) are welcoming Dr. Paige Ford, who has been leading new excavations on the site, to campus on Wednesday at 5pm in the Magnolia Room of the Reynolds Center to tell us about what she's been doing and what she's found out.

Also, if you ever want to participate in an archeological dig, the Society runs a summer training program and it'll be at Plum Bayou Mounds in June. So, coming to this talk would be a good appetizer (or would it be an amuse-bouche?) for getting out and digging.

Come on out and join in. Otherwise, good luck on your finals preparations and Happy Holidays!

Peace,
Carl
