On April 16, 2026, students from Southern Arkansas University participated in the NASA 2026 ASGC Autonomous Vehicle Competition in Morrilton, Arkansas.

SAU was represented by two teams:

🔹 Dr. Zghair's team:
Anas Saleem, Cody Stewart, Jamal Anderson

🔹 Dr. Lionel Hewavitharana’s team:
Logan Flowers, Rex Barnett, Wyatt Eckerd, Charlie Matthews

Students gained hands-on experience in autonomous systems and real-world problem solving.

SAU hosted the ACTM Regional Math Contest. We would like to thank all those who participated and encouraged others to pursue the contest next year.

Two teams from Southern Arkansas University (SAU) are set to compete in the upcoming Autonomous Vehicle Challenge (AVC).

The students recently attended a specialized workshop at the University of Central Arkansas, where they gained hands-on experience with LiDAR technology to prepare for the competition.

SAU students and faculty recently participated in an immersive, multi-day industry engagement experience through the LiTHIUMLEARNS program. Sponsored and hosted by ExxonMobil, the group toured the EMHC and Baytown refinery facilities.

The ASME-SAU student chapter held its first activity of the semester with a visit to Weyerhaeuser Co.

During the visit, students were introduced to potential real-world projects in engineering, coding, and automation. This gave them valuable insight into how their classroom knowledge applies directly to industry.

We appreciate Weyerhaeuser for investing time in our students and helping connect education with industry experience!

This past weekend, SAU proudly hosted its 11th annual Global Game Jam site! 🌍🎮

With over 800 sites participating worldwide this year, we were excited to welcome 40 students and alumni who came together to program and create art for 7 games in just 48 hours.

A special thanks to Brian and Rhaelene Lowther for serving as our site and regional organizers and making this event a success!

🔧 SAU Engineering is excited to partner with Caddo Hills High School for a new concurrent course that gives students a head start in manufacturing and engineering careers!
High school students can now earn college credit while learning safety procedures, technical drawing, and material management.
