The John R. Wooden Award - celebrating the women's and men's college basketball All-America team and Players of the Year - is in need of volunteers for the 2018 John R. Wooden Award Weekend, which takes place April 5-7, 2018. The John R. Wooden Award will be presented on ESPN as a College Basketball Awards Show presented by Wendy’s. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work and network with executives from Wendy’s, ESPN, AEG, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Grant Thornton, Special Olympics of Southern California, Basketball Hall of Fame and many others.

NBA All-Star Game volunteer opportunities:

Thank you to our member Clinton Breon Branch Jr. who contacted each agency below to learn more about specific opportunities. If you're interested in volunteering at the game, see the info below.

Partners In Diversity (626) 793-0020: Call, because the position is not posted on their website.

ACT 1 (310) 981-0111: All of their spots were filled. But I was placed on a waiting list. Students should call them.

Pride Staff: On the website, Search keyword "Basketball" to submit the application.

Diversity Business Solutions (323) 230-5283: There are several positions available. Once again, you must call.

Apple-One (818) 577-1002: Waiting List. Register online with Apple-One, then call and say you are interested in working NBA All-Star Weekend. The application was due yesterday, however there is still a waiting list.

There is a great opportunity for everyone to volunteer with the LA Sports and Entertainment Commission in February. Each year they host Lakers All Access, a premiere event for fans to engage with the Lakers organization. There is a document that needs to be filled out before the event, so please make sure you don't wait until the last minute. Email us at [email protected] if you want to sign up, or need more details. Come out on Monday, November 6 at 5pm for a book signing with Pepperdine professor Ned Colletti. Colletti has over 30 years of experience working in the MLB, and most recently worked as the General Manager of the LA Dodgers. His new book The Big Chair tells his life's story, and gives an in depth look at what it's like to make big decisions in professional sports. He will be signing books, doing a Q&A, and there will be a raffle for three students to win dinner with Ned! You don't want to miss this event!

Pepperdine's Men's Basketball team is look for student managers. There are opportunities to travel, get free team gear, and gain great experience. Applicants must be full time students. If you are interested get in contact with Brandon Veltri ASAP. Email [email protected].

Last night was a great time of insight and connection. Thank you to all the students and professionals that came out to our very first networking night. SBA will continue to try and bring the best and brightest industry professionals to Pepperdine to help students grow and make connections. Also a huge shout out to our mentor Alicia Jessop for helping us create such a flawless event!
