Last night, Alpha Rho Eta member Lilian Ndicu was recognized during a virtual ceremony for being named a member of the 2021 Phi Theta Kappa All-Illinois Academic Team. Lilian received this honor based on the PTK scholarship application she submitted last December. Normally there is a banquet and awards ceremony in Springfield to honor all the PTK students from Illinois who receive this honor, but because of continuing restrictions on large gatherings, the event was held virtually again this year. You can see here the moment in the ceremony when Lilian was recognized for her achievement. You can find the program listing all the members of the All-Illinois Academic Team at the following link: https://www.yumpu.com/en/document/read/65489596/phi-theta-kappa-all-illinois-academic-team-program. Also, you can watch the virtual ceremony at the following link: https://youtu.be/9NorqZgm97c.

Congratulations, Lilian! Your chapter and your college are very proud of your achievement!

Service is one of the four hallmarks of Phi Theta Kappa. Several of our members volunteered on Tuesday to help Kody's Cupboard food pantry distribute Thanksgiving starter kits and other goods to over thirty Kishwaukee College students and their families experiencing food insecurity. Many thanks to early crew Kaitlynn Ost, Eddith Encho, Katelyn Ackland, and her friend Robert and late crew Lisa Guzinski, Mallory Beck, and our friend Edith. Also, many thanks and much gratitude as well to Krystal Gundy, Coordinator of Student Activities, for all she does to provide this essential service to Kishwaukee College students. Well done, everyone!

It's the fourth week of the month, which means it's the week for a general meeting of our PTK chapter at Kishwaukee College. The invitations to join Phi Theta Kappa went out yesterday to all eligible students for Fall 2020! Have you checked your e-mail?

Phi Theta Kappa is the international honorary society for two-year colleges. In order to be eligible, students must have completed twelve (12) hours of coursework toward a degree or six (6) hours of coursework toward a one-year certificate, must have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.5, and must be enrolled at an institution with a PTK chapter. If that's you, check your Kish e-mail and respond today!

The fee to join PTK is $80. However, many students (in particular, those who qualify for financial aid) can receive a $40 fee reimbursement because of the generosity of the Kishwaukee College Foundation! Look for an e-mail from the Foundation about how to request reimbursement.

Furthermore, all students who join and attain Hallmark status this academic year by participating in eight (8) PTK meetings and/or events are eligible to receive reimbursement for the other $40. That means that most students active in PTK can end up being reimbursed for the entire $80 fee for joining. What a deal!!!!

So check your e-mail and respond quickly. We'll have a virtual induction ceremony later this fall for all our new members. If you have any questions, contact PTK advisor Tim Anderson ([email protected]). To check out all of the benefits available exclusively to PTK members, such as scholarship opportunities and PTK Edge training modules, visit the PTK website (ptk.org).

Congratulations to all our eligible students!

There are lots of good reasons to accept the invitation to join Phi Theta Kappa. A great reason to join is that many transfer institutions offer special scholarship opportunities exclusively to PTK members. We would like to congratulate Alpha Rho Eta member Adriana Aumann-Weyenberg, who graduated from Kishwaukee College in May and will be continuing her studies this fall at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Earlier this summer, Adriana applied for and won a $2,500 scholarship offered by UW-Stout to PTK students transferring to their university. Here is Adriana proudly displaying her certificate and wearing her PTK swag. Congratulations, Adriana! We are all so very proud of you and all of our graduates! Well done! 🎓🎓🎓🎓🎓👏👏👏

In January, the Alpha Rho Eta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Kishwaukee College submitted our College Project to PTK International as our Hallmark Award entry for 2020. At Catalyst, the international PTK convention held in April, our College Project received recognition as one of the Distinguished College Projects for 2020. Our project was one of only fifty-one projects to receive this recognition at the international level. Today, we finally received our award. Normally, we would display our award in our part of the trophy case outside of Student Activities. However, since no one is there to see it, we are sharing a picture of our award with you!! We are very proud of all the hard work that resulted in this recognition, and we are thankful for everyone at the College who helped us carry out the project in any way.

Good job, everyone!!

The Alpha Rho Eta chapter of PTK at Kishwaukee College wishes to recognize and congratulate the following students who accepted the invitation to join PTK after our fall induction ceremony. Unfortunately, our spring induction ceremony originally scheduled for last March was canceled along with all other in-person events at Kishwaukee College during the second half of the spring semester. In order that these students receive the recognition they have earned and deserve for this accomplishment, we kindly ask that you share this post and tag any of our newest members so that they can share the post as well.

With more than 3.5 million members worldwide, Phi Theta Kappa is the international honor society for two-year colleges. The Alpha Rho Eta chapter of PTK at Kishwaukee College extends its congratulations to member Gwendolyn Papke for being named by PTK to the All-Illinois Academic Team. Gwen and the other team members were chosen from among community college students throughout Illinois for achieving excellence in the four pillars of PTK: scholarship, leadership, fellowship, and service.

Gwen served as our Chapter President this past year and also was the Vice-President of the Kishwaukee Table Tennis Club. Her involvement in the community includes volunteering at Network of Nations, the Kitchen Table, and Feed My Starving Children. A recipient of several area scholarships and Dean's List honors, Gwen graduated this May and will attend Northern Illinois University this fall to pursue a degree in Nutrition and Dietetics.

The April awards banquet at which Gwen was to receive her medal and certificate was canceled, along with many other PTK events this spring. Please share this post so that Gwen can receive the recognition she deserves for achieving this honor.

Congratulations to Gwen, Kishwaukee College's All-Illinois Academic Team member for 2020!
