We are so excited to begin showcasing the selected works from the Penn State Great Valley Photo Contest! 📸🎨

Created to bring new artwork to our campus and celebrate the creativity of our community, the contest resulted in 23 photographs being chosen for display throughout Penn State Great Valley. Over the coming weeks, we'll highlight the talented artists and photographers whose work will help tell the story of our campus through their unique perspectives.

What better way to kick off the series than by featuring three Great Valley staff members whose photographs of our beautiful campus were selected to help bring new artwork to our walls. Thank you Crina Drayer, Jeanette Donahue, and Ashkan Negahban for sharing your work with us!

Orientation is complete, campus is energized, and a new academic year is underway. Today, we welcome our new and returning students as they begin a new semester of learning, collaboration, and professional growth at Penn State Great Valley. We look forward to supporting their success and wish them a rewarding semester ahead. WE ARE!

Yesterday, new and returning international students gathered for Penn State Great Valley's annual welcome barbecue, connecting with classmates, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members before the start of the semester. Students enjoyed classic American barbecue favorites, co****le, giant Connect 4, and Berkey Creamery ice cream served by Penn State Great Valley Alumni Society members. As they begin their graduate studies, we're excited to welcome students from China, Ivory Coast, India, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Myanmar, Pakistan, and Peru to the Great Valley community.

“It took a couple of reads for the news to feel real," said Venkata Sai Renusree Bandaru.

She and Muhammad Faizan Raza said they had to read the emails more than once before it sank in that they had received Penn State’s prestigious Fox Scholar awards, which celebrate graduate students for their exceptional academic achievement, research and professional impact.

"What stuck with me most was how much this reflects the support of the people around me, not just my own effort,” Bandaru said.

Raza said the award “gives me time and intellectual space, two of the most valuable resources a young researcher can receive, to continue developing the ideas that began at Penn State.”

The students plan to use the funds to support their research, attend conferences, and continue growing professionally in their fields of artificial intelligence and data analytics. Congratulations on this award, Renu and Faizan!

"Once everybody has had a chance to speak and feel seen and feel heard, then we can really get into the learning." That philosophy has helped earn Leon Smith the distinction of 2026 National Teacher of the Year.

Penn State Great Valley alumnus Leon Smith, M.Ed. ’05, is being recognized for the extraordinary impact he continues to make on students, fellow educators, and the teaching profession. Leon has built his career around creating inclusive learning environments and helping students feel valued and empowered. He has also credited his Penn State Great Valley education with providing skills that continue to support his work as an educator and leader today.
