Congratulations, Brother Payne!

Phillip D. Payne, professor of music and chair of music education, has been appointed as associate director of music in the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, serving a three-year appointment beginning Aug. 6.

"I am excited to serve the K-State School of Music, Theatre, and Dance in this new role," Payne said. "I look forward to collaborating with our leadership team and serving our stellar faculty and staff as we guide the school in the upcoming years. The K-State music, theatre and dance programs are unique and special on so many levels, and I am anxious to hit the ground running in sharing the brilliance of our students, faculty, staff and stakeholders."

At K-State, Payne serves as the lead advisor for music education majors, teaching undergraduate and graduate classes in music education, supervising student teachers, and overseeing all operational aspects of the music education program. Prior to K-State, Payne served as director of bands at Rogers State University and assistant director of bands at Moore High School in Moore, Oklahoma.

"I am thrilled to welcome Dr. Payne to our leadership team," said Bryan Pinkall, director of the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. "Dr. Payne has a wealth of knowledge and expertise in academic affairs, curriculum, accreditation, and has made a significant impact on a new generation of music educators in our state. We are excited to continue the great work of our school and its impact on thousands of K-State students through his service and leadership."

This weeks Sinfonian Check-In is Rob Brown!

Hey guys, I’m Robert Brown, but you can call me Rob! I’m starting my junior year this fall, studying elementary education. I’ve spent my summer so far working as a para with autistic children, playing tuba in the Manhattan Municipal Band, reading books, and learning ukulele!

This fall, I’m most excited to see my band friends again, and make new ones as I start block A and get to start teaching inside of classrooms!

This week’s Sinfonian Check-In is none other than Dayton Raines! Dayton is going to be a senior studying Environmental Biology with a minor in Music, and is a member of the KSU Choirs. For the summer, Dayton is working at the Konza Prairie doing plant ecological research and (hopefully) taking trips with his family. He is most excited for his classes with fall because they will be interesting!

This week’s Sinfonian Check-In is our very own Ryan Wessels! Ryan is going to be a sophomore at Kansas State studying Biology with an emphasis in Conservation, and is also a member of the Pride of Wildcat Land Marching Band! For the summer, Ryan plans on working as a lifeguard at his local pool, starting a Bible study with his friends, and camping! When he returns to school in August, he is most looking forward to going back and seeing all of his friends playing in the marching band!
