The Political Science Program of Minnesota State University is holding a panel discussion entitled: “What's Going on with Congress? Chaos in government during crises” on Thursday, November 16, from 3:30-5:00 P.M. in the Centennial Student Union downstairs flexible use room.

We invite the university community and public to join us for a discussion and expert analysis, discussion and opportunities for audience questions.

On the day before the looming deadline of the federal government shutdown, panelists Dr. Joshua Berkenpas, Dr. Amelia Pridemore and Dr. Kevin Parsneau will discuss changes in congressional leadership, the potential government shutdown, the debt ceiling and what they mean for domestic policies and the wars in Palestine and Ukraine.

Dr. Amelia Pridemore, Assistant Professor of Political Science, gave the Marshall University Paul D. Stewart Lecture in Political Science last Friday. Her lecture, “Post-Reality Outlaw Citizenship”, sought to explain why citizens lash out at their governments — based on grievances that are not even real.

Dr. Pridemore’s first alma mater is Marshall, so she also had the pleasure of once again spending time with professors whose lessons she passes on to our students!

This is a promo for Extreme Politics, an upper-division course for Spring 2023. The course focuses on American-based extremism -- how we reach these points but the vexing "wicked problems" that arise when we try to devise solutions.

You don't have to be a Political Science major to take this course and earn upper-division credit! If you've taken a POL 420/520 topics course before, but the subject was different, you can still get additional credit for this course.

(For Political Science majors: This counts as an Area 1 course.)
