While many enjoyed a well-earned break, Kristin Berndt and Dr. Kristi Oeding spent part of their break representing the Department of Speech, Hearing & Rehabilitation Services at the Austin, Texas Lilly Conference on Evidence-Based Teaching and Learning. Their presentation, "Confidence and Emotions in Learning Clinical Skills as Undergraduates", focused on undergraduate clinical education and student learning experiences. πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸ«

While in Austin, they also connected with colleagues from across the country, explored new ideas related to AI and technology in higher education, and learned strategies to increase teaching efficiency and support student learning and mentorship. 🍎✏

Wrapping up another incredible semester at Madelia Public Schools! ✏️🍎

Our final day is always bittersweet. Over the past few months, we’ve had the privilege of getting to know so many amazing students, building relationships, and watching their growth in communication skills, confidence, and connection. Just as meaningful has been the opportunity to collaborate with dedicated teachers and staff who make such a difference in these students’ daily lives.

Experiences like this remind us that speech-language services are about so much more than goals and data. They are about relationships, trust, and creating supportive environments where students can thrive. 🫢🏼

We’re so grateful for our partnership with Madelia and the chance for our student clinicians to learn, grow, and contribute in such a meaningful way. πŸ’œ Already looking forward to being back next semester!

πŸ™Œ What an incredible day! A few weeks ago, our ASL 1–4 students brought the energy, the enthusiasm, and hands signing in every direction, and they absolutely delivered.

With 200 students hitting the floor, our ASL Amazing Race was nothing short of amazing with the kind of happy chaos that makes an event truly memorable.

Students tackled eight challenges that tested everything from fingerspelling, storytelling, ASL grammar to Deaf culture knowledge and yes, even Lego building!

This event was proof that real learning happens when students step outside the classroom and put their skills to use. By mixing ASL 1 through 4 students together as a team, they were not just competing. They were learning from one another, lifting each other up, and experiencing ASL the way it was meant to be used, together.

A huge thank you to our adjunct instructors who ran the stations, our interpreters for stepping in wherever needed, and the ASL Club for keeping things running up front. This event would not have happened without each and every one of you. 🫢

And of course, thank you to our students who showed up, signed big, and gave it their all. We cannot wait to do it again! πŸ’œ

Last week, our grad students completed another successful clinical swallow evaluation practice lab in CDIS 695 πŸ‘

Our students engaged in hands-on, high-impact learning as they applied clinical reasoning, practiced assessment skills, and built confidence in a supportive, experiential environment. These real-world practice opportunities are where knowledge truly becomes clinical skill.

Proud of the growth we continue to see each week! 🀘
