📚 Fun Fact Friday: Pride Month Edition! 🏳️‍🌈
Did you know that the oldest documented gay rights organization in the United States dates all the way back to 1924?

Meet Henry Ge**er, the visionary who started it all. While stationed in Germany on U.S. Army duty, Ge**er experienced an open, vibrant LGBTQ+ community that inspired him. When he returned home, he wanted to replicate that sense of community and acceptance right here in the U.S.

In 1924, he founded The Society for Human Rights in Chicago.

It was an uphill battle from day one. Ge**er faced intense discrimination, threats, and even arrests just for advocating for basic human rights—but he never stopped fighting for the LGBTQ+ community.

His incredible legacy lives on. In 2015, the Henry Ge**er House in Chicago was officially declared a National Historic Landmark, ensuring his bravery and our history are never forgotten.

Log Entry: Day 4 of the Great Summer Calm

Status: The spring storms have receded, taking the students with them to "Summer Break." The library is impossibly quiet.

To stave off the madness of the silence, I have resorted to testing the ship's remaining equipment. Seated in the ergonomic command chair, I launched myself with a violent push against the desk. Around and around I went—a full, dizzying spin into the doldrums of June.

The rotation test was a success, but the horizon remains clear. No patrons in sight. I shall return to my duties, checking the book return and spinning in my chair whenever cabin fever threatens to consume me.

If anyone finds this message, send coffee.

The Origins of Pride 🏳️‍🌈
Before it was a month-long global celebration, did you know Pride started as a single historic day?

On June 28, 1970—exactly one year after the Stonewall Uprising—activists organized Christopher Street Liberation Day in New York City, marking the very first Pride March.

Here are a few quick facts about that historic day:

A Bi-Coastal Movement: While Los Angeles also held a celebration that same day, NYC’s march was massive, with thousands of people stretching across 15 city blocks.

The Last Sunday in June: The event became an annual tradition held on the final Sunday of the month, going by several names over the years, including "Gay Pride Day."

The Blueprint for Today: This single day of liberation and protest laid the vital foundation for the modern Pride Month celebrations we observe every June.

🐹 Fun Fact Friday: The Ultimate Backpack! 🎒✨
It's National Pet Month, and today we’re looking at the ultimate pocket pets—hamsters! You probably know they love to stuff their faces, but their cheeks are practically a superpower.

Did you know a hamster's famous cheek pouches can stretch all the way back to their shoulders? 🤯

Here is what makes those cheeks so incredible:

Heavy Lifting: They can carry up to 20% of their body weight in food at a single time. (That's like a human carrying a massive 30-pound backpack using just their face!)

Built-in Life Jackets: In the wild, some hamsters will puff up their cheek pouches with air and use them as floatation devices to help them float while swimming! 🏊‍♂️🎈
