Political science major and Commonwealth University-Mansfield student, Chelsie English ('27), is getting quite the education! She is traveling all over the county with Tioga County Commissioners Shane Nickerson, Marc Rice, and Sam VanLoon. She is learning a ton from our commissioners about the county where she grew up, including all about proposed AI centers, substance abuse issues, emergency services, economic development, and so much more! Her internship has resulted in tours of businesses, school events, and several different meetings with other public officials, including PA State Rep Clint Owlett, PA State Senator Gene Yaw, and US Senator Dave McCormick. We are grateful for local public officials who are willing to partner with Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania to give our students incredible experiential learning opportunities!

Dr. Pete Doerschler, CU-Bloomsburg political science professor, broke down the state of American democracy. His guest lecture was sponsored by the CU Eileen G. Jones Honors College. Thank you, Dr. Doerschler! (Although he “forgot” to bring his sneakers to play pickleball afterwards 😂)

Read Dr. Jonathan Rothermel's latest Op-Ed from PennLive.com entitled, "Why your political silence is making America's divisions worse." It starts, "Today, there are two vastly different and seemingly irreconcilable versions of who we are as a country that dominate American politics."

".....The extreme partisan divide – and the tale of two Americas – is loudly expressed by a small portion of America. Most Americans through their own disengagement from politics have allowed the hyper-engaged partisan voices to prevail."
..We cannot afford to leave politics to hyper-engaged partisans, Otherwise, there is no space for compromise, reasonableness, or moderation."

We are a nation that bullies political opponents and expresses admiration for dictators.
