Curious about world cultures? Don’t have a passport? No problem! Get college credit as you develop the skills to be a world traveler and explore the globe from your couch!

This course introduces the distinctive features of a particular culture. Topics include art, history, music, literature, politics, philosophy, and religion. Upon completion, students should be able to appreciate the unique character of the study culture. This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a general education course in Humanities/Fine Arts.

Earn your 30-hour global experience requirement for the NC Scholars of Global Distinction Program* through HUM 120.
🧡 Students enrolled in the Fall 2026 section of HUM 120 will meet this requirement through a virtual study abroad experience through Global 360 within the Course.
🧡 Students enrolled in the Spring 2027 section of HUM 120 will also have the opportunity to meet this requirement and earn college credit if they participate in the COA Study Abroad Trip to Greece and Italy.**

College of The Albemarle recently celebrated the opening of “From Then to Now,” a retrospective exhibition featuring the work of Outer Banks artist Rick Tupper, at the COA – Dare Professional Arts Gallery.

Guests gathered for the opening reception to explore a collection spanning decades of Tupper’s creative work, including paintings, works on paper and furniture, along with photography by his son, Ed Tupper. 🖼️

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate the exhibition and the arts in our community!

“From Then to Now” will remain on display through Oct. 22 at the COA – Dare Professional Arts Gallery, located on the second floor of B Building in Manteo. Admission is free and open to the public.

College of the Albemarle (COA) has implemented new hours for administrative offices during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Administrative offices will be open to the public:
Monday–Thursday: 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
Friday: 8 a.m.–12 p.m.

COA is not closing at noon on Fridays. Curriculum and continuing education classes will continue as scheduled, and College locations will remain open as needed for instruction. This schedule change applies to all 4 of our campus locations in Currituck, Edenton, Elizabeth City, and Dare.
