MTCC is located in Marion (near Asheville) in western North Carolina and is one of only a handful of community colleges in the state featuring a photography program. Students attending photography school at McDowell Tech benefit from small hands-on classes, currently from four to thirteen students per class, and additional one-on-one time with instructors when needed. Currently, classes are face t

o face, but we will be adding a number of hybrid (part online) courses starting this summer semester (2012). The program features a fully equipped studio, Macintosh lab for digital imaging, and two large format Canon ipf5100 printers for producing exhibition quality work. Special emphasis is placed on developing skills in the following areas: fundamentals of camera systems, lighting, digital imaging, and business practices. Graduates qualify for entry level jobs in the diverse photographic industry. Employment opportunities exist in the following areas: commercial photography, photojournalism, biomedical photography, portrait, photographic equipment sales, photographic laboratories, and imagining technologies.

Photo Students Starr Allen and Mackenzie Cooke put our photo studio to good use for their intermediate project- they set up a mock shopping mall photo studio (you know which department store!!) and invited anyone who wanted to sign up to have their portraits done!
