Was a wild and woolly weekend here in Marquette and part of that included hosting over 150 visitors to the Biology Department as part of Wildcat Weekend. This recruitment event brings prospective students to campus to see what we do! We always give tours as part of this event and, because of our crazy warm weather, Dr. Elowe was able to pull out the stops and do some mist netting, assisted by grad student Lexi Bryan. They caught some birds (including this palm warbler) and the students sure looked interested! Great work everyone!!

🚲 Biology Wildcats and alumni, where’s your favorite place to ride in Marquette? 🍂
With trails winding through the woods, climbs, descents, and plenty of fall color, Marquette is a pretty incredible place to get out on two wheels.
Do you have a favorite trail, loop, or section of the NTN network?

Drop your go-to biking spot and the best animal you've encountered on the trails in the comments and help our students find their next ride. 💚💛

Do what you love. Love Biology.

🏃 Biologists are human too. 💚

Between teaching/learning, research, labs, fieldwork, meetings, and everything else that fills our days, making time to step away matters.

For some of us, that means running.

We have some avid distance runners in the Biology Department, and Dr. Mandeville is always happy to have students join her for a run. Whether you are training for a race, getting outside between classes, or just looking for a reason to move, there are plenty of ways to get your miles in around Marquette.

And there is a perfect opportunity coming up: NMU’s 3rd Annual Mind Over Miles 5K is Thursday, October 8 at 6:00 p.m., starting and finishing at the Wildcat Statue near Jamrich Hall. The run/walk is held in connection with World Mental Health Day and highlights the connection between physical and mental wellbeing.

Who are we seeing at the starting line? 💚💛
