Launch a career in media/communication!

Our programs are founded on the idea that to be successful in strategic communications, practitioners must understand why they are making decisions, how to produce media in multiple forms, and the potential impact of publishing that content. Our courses include both foundational theory as well as opportunities for application, and prepare students for professional fields in strategic communication

including advertising, public relations, media planning, brand strategy, digital marketing, social media management and creative production as well as political, health, and public communication with a strategic purpose. Courses are designed to prepare students for an ever-changing media world and allow students to acquire and practice skills in simulated situations and, when applicable, with professional clients.

MMSC alumni and students are always finding ways to stay connected! ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿค

At the TAB Excellence in Broadcasting Awards, current MMSC students had the opportunity to connect with Nick Martin (pictured on the far right), a graduate and distinguished alumnus of the MMSC Department.

Nick currently works with Big River Broadcasting in Florence/Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and continues to stay connected with the MMSC department and its students.

This summer, Cecilia Rodriguez spent 10 weeks in Greensboro, North Carolina, as a ๐–๐ซ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ฅ๐ž๐ซ ๐๐ฎ๐›๐ฅ๐ข๐œ ๐‘๐ž๐ฅ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ ๐ˆ๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ง with Kontoor Brands. ๐Ÿ‘–๐Ÿค 

During her internship, Cecilia gained hands-on PR experience with celebrity and influencer requests, photoshoots, collaborations, events, and strategic PR projects.

๐ŸŒŸ One highlight was assisting with the LoveShackFancy x Wrangler collaboration, giving her a behind-the-scenes look at a major brand partnership.

๐ŸŒŸ She also developed and presented her own strategic PR campaign and event concept for Wranglerโ€™s 2027 initiatives.

Cecilia says the experience allowed her to apply what she has learned in the MMSC program while gaining valuable experience in PR, brand partnerships, events, and strategic communication.

Weโ€™re so proud of our students for taking their MMSC experience beyond the classroom! ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿค

Congratulations to Meteorology student and WUTM Chief Forecaster Christian Bryson, who received a Collegiate Excellence in Broadcasting Award from the Tennessee Association of Broadcasters for his radio coverage of a severe weather event, including an EF-3 tornado, in April 2025! โ›ˆ๏ธ๐ŸŽ™

WUTM Sports Director Daniel Mancusi was also named a finalist in the same college category for Best Radio News, Sports or Event Coverage! ๐Ÿˆ

WUTM () took home the top two spots in the only college radio category of the night! Congratulations, Christian and Danielโ€”we couldnโ€™t be more proud of our WUTM family!

Ashley will be teaching at both the UT Martin campus and the UT Martin Parsons Center, where sheโ€™ll teach:

๐Ÿ“š Introduction to Strategic and Visual Communication
๐Ÿ“š Introduction to Strategic Campaigns

Ashley earned her bachelorโ€™s degree in Public Relations from the MMSC Department in 2016 and her Master of Arts in Strategic Communication in 2018. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Strategic Communication degree at Regent University. ๐ŸŽ“

Sheโ€™s most excited to interact with students as they learn new concepts and apply them throughout the semester!

Fun fact: Ashley has two dachshunds, Daisy May and Honey Bun! ๐Ÿถ
