We are incredibly proud of six of our UT Martin Cybersecurity students who spent the afternoon with the Martin Elementary STEM Club yesterday, leading hands-on cybersecurity activities for 38 fourth and fifth grade students.
Iyanna Woods, Joey Meeks, Claire Bullington, CJ Durham, Tyler Hull, and Reece Cosbey designed and facilitated three interactive learning stations:
• Lock Lab – Students explored how physical locks work and learned how security professionals test locks to understand vulnerabilities in physical security systems. They also talked about the importance of using cybersecurity skills ethically and always getting permission before testing systems.
• Scam Busters – Students listened to different scenarios and decided whether they were real or scams while learning how attackers try to trick people into sharing information.
• Password Power-Up – Students learned how to create strong passwords. One student even discovered their password was in the top five most commonly used passwords!
Beyond teaching cybersecurity concepts, our students practiced communication, leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills—the same skills that cybersecurity professionals use every day when helping organizations and communities stay secure.
We are so proud of how these students represented our program and inspired the next generation of technology leaders. Thank you to the Martin Elementary STEM Club for welcoming us!
