Are you ready to "Meet Maryville?" 🧡♥️

Happening on Saturday, September 12th, the first Meet Maryville event of the semester is coming in quick, giving prospective students a chance to see everything Maryville College has to offer.

There will also be a chance to earn some early rewards, such as an early admission decision or a one-time $2,000 Visit Award for attending a Meet Maryville and officially enrolling at MC.

"We’re confident that students who take the time to visit Maryville College will quickly understand what makes this place special. They can read about our academic programs and see photos of campus online, but ‘Meet Maryville’ allows them to meet faculty members, talk to current students, tour the residence halls and really experience the sense of community that defines Maryville College. And we’re happy to reward students who make that investment in exploring whether MC is the right fit for them,” said Kelly Massenzo, director of Undergraduate Admissions.

This summer, Abhilasha Ghosh ’27 served as an intern with the Blount County Sheriff’s Office.

Abhilasha highlighted the observational and analytical skills she sharpened during this internship and enjoyed the opportunity to learn from so many experienced professionals in a variety of specialties.

“What I’ve enjoyed most about my internship experience is seeing textbook things come to life, so real world applications of what I’ve learned so far in my degree. I’ve also enjoyed meeting so many different people, I absolutely love everybody that I’ve met here,” she said.

We want to thank the Blount County Sheriff’s Office for their continued partnership with Maryville College and the Maryville College Career Center. We are grateful for campus partners who always support MC and our students in their professional endeavors!

Monday night, Maryville College received a meaningful commitment to a transformative vision for the region we call home: David and Annie Haslam Colquitt, co-chairs of the Alexander Institute for Conservation Leadership and the Sciences Leadership Council, have committed $1.5 million to the College’s campaign to build the Institute.

Their gift will support the Natalie Leach Haslam Center for Environmental Education and help advance Maryville College’s vision for a place where education, conservation, research and community engagement come together to serve Southern Appalachia.

For Annie, the story is deeply personal. Her grandmother, Natalie Leach Haslam, was herself a passionate advocate for East Tennessee’s natural beauty and one of the Institute’s early supporters. Now, a center bearing her name will help carry that appreciation into the future, and the Colquitts have ensured it will be a center beyond compare. We’re deeply grateful to Annie and David for their leadership, generosity and belief in the future of this region.

Thank you to everyone who attended the second annual Outdoor Enthusiast Expo hosted by SNR, the Maryville College Division of Health Sciences and Outdoor Studies, and Mountain Challenge! More than 240 people came to the Maryville College campus over Friday and Saturday, including presenters and vendors. People enjoyed a free concert and bat hike on Friday night and various outdoor activities like hunting, fishing, kayaking, and hiking on Saturday.

"Another great Expo. The University of Tennessee is a great partner for this event, and while this is meant for our community, I love how much I get from meeting the folks involved and the local businesses and nonprofits that come to support the programming," Tyson Murphy, director of Mountain Challenge at Maryville College, says.

We’re grateful to all the attendees, instructors, vendors, and sponsors who helped create a welcoming environment for people to learn, explore, and celebrate the outdoors!

Summer Internship Highlight with Pugh CPAs!

Over the summer, Dakota Vaiese '26 served as an Accounting Intern with Pugh CPAs. She learned more about what client auditing looks like for a large accounting firm and connected her classroom skills to real-life scenarios!

Dakota highlighted the communication skills she sharpened during her internship and the connections she formed in a more professional setting that will help her on her journey in becoming a Certified Public Accountant.

"I've been put in a professional setting where I have to go to clients and communicate with them about their financial statements, which is something I haven't had experience with before. However, I feel much more confident in my communication skills after this internship," she said.

We want to thank Pugh CPAs for their continued partnership with Maryville College and the Maryville College Career Center. We are grateful for campus partners who always support MC and our students in their professional endeavors!
