On November 9th we will have our program at the Matteson public library, where we will learn to needle felt a few acorns and little pumpkins and attach them to a small wreath.
Anyone interested that needs a kit, needs to message us by October 31st.

The project will be $10 a person. This would be for use of felting needles and felting pads, a 6” vine wreath the needed materials to felt some little pumpkins and acorns (wool, floral wire, acorn tops , toothpicks), felt for leaves, hot glue, and I will also have some twine, raffia, and ribbon.

If people have all of that they can just bring it and there isn’t any charge for instruction.

If people have their own needles and felting pad, but need all of the consumable supplies then $8.

Also if anyone wants wool that isn’t orange or brown, leaves that aren’t green, or ribbon that isn’t ivory or orange they can bring that. They don’t all have to look the same.

Beyond Wool and Cotton
If you work with fibers, knit, weave, etc., come to explore all the options you can use. At the Weavers Guild South meeting on May 18th at noon at the Matteson Public Library, Betty Burian Kirk will introduce you to an abundance of fibers. Learn about animal fibers like yak and musk ox, plant fibers like ramie and lotus as well as regenerated manufactured fibers like rose, pearl and mint. Find out what the most expensive legal fiber is.
Receiving a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Northern Illinois University, Kirk is a former art teacher. Some of Betty’s talents include weaving, spinning, felting, ribbon flowers, tassels, Japanese bookbinding and Kumihimo. Betty frequently teaches at regional and national conferences. This summer she will be teaching Japanese bookbinding at Convergence 2024 in Wichita KS.
