The STC Office of Student Veteran Affairs continues expanding efforts to support student veterans and their families across the Rio Grande Valley. In recognition of that work, South Texas College has been awarded the Gold Veterans Education Excellence Recognition Award (VEERA) by the Texas Veterans Commission.

Last week, members of the office were in Houston for the Texas Association of Collegiate Veteran Program Officials (TACVPO) Conference, where the recognition was accepted.

The conference also provided an opportunity to connect with colleagues from across the state and explore new ideas on how to continue strengthening support and opportunities for the veterans and families we serve. 🇺🇸

South Texas College recently welcomed the U.S. Navy Band to the Cooper Center for Performing Arts as part of Navy Week 2026.

The band delivered an outstanding performance, and we were grateful to host our Navy partners for the first-ever Navy Week event in the Rio Grande Valley. The afternoon brought together music, community, and a strong appreciation for the service and professionalism of the U.S. Navy. ⚓️

Serving our community is rarely a solo effort.

This morning, our office welcomed Michael Carrion from the Wounded Warrior Project San Antonio office to share insight on the work WWP is leading and to explore ways our efforts may align in supporting veterans and their families.

We also had the chance to connect with Mark Martinez from Veterans Upward Bound, who continues to support veterans and family members as they begin their college journey.

We look forward to building collaboration that strengthens support for the veterans and families we serve.
