As always, we're proud to welcome the Mid-Atlantic Interstate Forest Fire Protection Compact back to Garrett College.

For nearly a decade, our campus has served as the home of the Mid-Atlantic Wildfire Training Academy, bringing together hundreds of wildfire professionals from across the region to learn, train, and share expertise. We're honored to play a small part in supporting the important work these individuals do to protect our communities and natural resources.

Thank you to all who attended this year's academy—we look forward to seeing you again next year. ⛑️

Garrett College recently welcomed more than 300 students, instructors, and wildfire professionals for the annual Mid-Atlantic Wildfire Training Academy. 🔥

Representatives from seven states, along with federal agencies including the U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, gathered on campus for a week of advanced wildfire suppression and incident management training.

For nearly a decade, Garrett College has been proud to host this important regional academy, helping equip firefighters with the skills and knowledge needed to protect communities and natural resources across the Mid-Atlantic region.

🎓 Student Spotlight: Jacquelyn Patton

Born and raised in Garrett County, Jacquelyn Patton is pursuing an Associate of Applied Science in Paramedic Studies while serving as a firefighter with Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department and an EMT with Garrett County Emergency Services.

Garrett College was a natural choice after completing college courses in high school and discovering a pathway to become a paramedic.

Now halfway through the program, Jacquelyn has already completed more than 100 clinical hours in the Emergency Department and successfully performed multiple intubations in the operating room.

"Attending college has helped me strive to be the best version of myself. College sets you up with people from all different walks of life, and it's important to learn from them."

After graduation, Jacquelyn plans to work full-time with Garrett County EMS and continue her education toward a nursing degree.

Giving back to the future of Laker Athletics ⚓

A heartfelt thank you to Bill and Laurie Grant for their generous support of the Garrett College Foundation Athletics Capital Campaign. Their gift will help transform the 700 Building into a hub for student-athletes, featuring new locker rooms, athletic training space, a wrestling room, coaches’ offices, and more.

“Our love for Garrett County, followed by our love of the College,” said Bill Grant.

The Grants are the first Gold Tier donors recognized on the 700 Building donor wall, continuing their long tradition of investing in education, athletics, and our community. 💙
