National Boat Safety Week is May 16 - May 22, but we wanted to give Kentucky boaters an early reminder to be safe as they head out on the water in the coming weeks!

Here is a list of simple safety precautions, brought to you by the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife game wardens, to help minimize incidents:

1. Wear a life jacket
2. Use an engine cut-off switch
3. Boat sober
4. Take a safe boating course
5. Double-check boating equipment
6. Be aware of your surroundings
7. Stay weather aware
8. File a float plan

These tips are more than just suggestions; they save lives. Don’t let the excitement of boating season keep you from safe boating practices!
