Collin College Polysomnographic Technology (Sleep Tech) Program

Collin College Polysomnographic Technology (Sleep Tech) Program Sleep is a basic necessity for life and mind, but so many do not get the sleep that they need.

More than 60 million Americans struggle with one or more of over 100 known sleep disorders, creating a greater need for sleep medicine. Polysomnographic technologists are at the forefront of this growing field of medicine, as they conduct the sleep studies that allow physicians to diagnose and treat patients suffering from sleep disorders. In Fall 2012, Collin College began offering a Polysomnogra

phic Technology program. The program prepares individuals for an allied health specialty in the clinical care and management of sleep disorders. The Polysomnographic Technology Program offers two tracks depending on the student’s healthcare background. The 22-month Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree track is for those without a healthcare background and totals 60 credit hours. The 12-month Certificate track totals 28 credit hours and is for individuals who are board registered in a healthcare field or have one year or more of paid experience as a sleep technician. The Collin College Polysomnographic Technology Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation for Polysomnographic Technologist Education (www.coapsg.org). Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for the RPSGT or RST exams in polysomnographic technology. Graduates of the AAS track are also eligible to sit for the CCSH exam after passing the RPSGT exam.
