TCAT-McMinnville Celebrates Tennessee’s 230th Anniversary on Tennessee Statehood Day 2026!

Did you know that Tennessee officially became the 16th state on June 1, 1796, when President George Washington signed the bill admitting Tennessee to the Union?

Tennessee is hosting a free, two-day Statehood Day celebration in Nashville, TN.

•Where: Tennessee State Library & Archives and the Tennessee State Museum, located on Bicentennial Mall in Nashville.

•Events include: Exhibits displaying the original state constitution and flag, live music, living history interpreters, family-friendly crafts, story time with Miss Tennessee, and traditional celebratory cupcakes.

•Dates: Saturday, May 30 (10 AM – 2 PM) and Monday, June 1 (10 AM – 2 PM).

Jess Nunez the Residential Commercial Industrial Electricity Instructor reported on the work his students recently completed at a local women’s shelter, “I must brag about our RCIE team! I am very proud of their performance and professionalism on a job that demanded lots of effort to overcome the obstacles it presented even though it's just one room. This was a great learning experience. We are looking forward to continuing in other areas of this house and improving it’s electrical convenience and making it warm and welcoming.”

Recently, TCAT-McMinnville Cosmetology students competed in groups, producing six models to represent Earth Day. Makeup, costumes, and nail samples were presented to the student body for judging. Here are some of the pictures from the day’s event.

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) McMinnville recognized its May 2026 Practical Nursing graduates with a traditional pinning ceremony held at the Warren County High School Auditorium on May 7, 2026. During the ceremony, graduates took the traditional Florence Nightingale oath, lit candles symbolic of the transfer of knowledge from instructors to students and received pins designating their newly earned alumni status.
