Messiah making decision to close the campus to outsiders.

Our relationship with the local community is important to Messiah University. Messiah’s campus is private property, but as good neighbors, we have been pleased to provide access to the public as we are able, including the library, areas for walking, use of the fitness trail, and access to the Yellow Breeches Creek by way of Messiah University’s Starry Athletic Complex.

However, as we navigate the significant safety concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic, our top priority is the health of our students, employees and surrounding region. As a result, we need to limit current access to Messiah’s campus to students, employees and authorized visitors only. We regret that public access to Messiah University’s campus is currently closed until further notice.

This includes a temporary restriction on access to the library, areas for walking, use of the fitness trail, Starry Athletic Complex, and access to the Yellow Breeches via campus property. We appreciate your cooperation as we care for our campus community, and we look forward to being able to open campus to the public again as soon as health and safety measures permit.

Exciting news!

The Messiah College Board of Trustees announced today that it approved Messiah College moving to university status, effective July 1, 2020.

“Messiah College becoming Messiah University is an important next step for our campus community,” said Messiah College President Kim Phipps. “In many ways, university status is a much more accurate reflection of how Messiah has functioned for several years now. With our comprehensive offering of undergraduate and graduate programs in both the liberal arts and applied sciences—including our expansion to master’s and doctoral programs—Messiah’s educational profile is already well-positioned with the academic distinction of a nationally recognized, private Christian university.”

Pray for the Messiah College family.

Updated Sunday, Oct. 14 - due to the overwhelming response to this evening’s time of remembrance, the service will now be held in Parmer Hall.

It is with deep sadness that we share with the Messiah College community that senior Ethan Van Bochoven passed away tragically in an automobile accident last evening. Ethan was a music major with a commercial music concentration. He was active in the Messiah College worship community, serving in the Powerhouse Band and as a member of the Messiah College Symphony Orchestra. He also served as the manager of the men’s lacrosse team for two years.

The Messiah community will offer a time of remembrance and prayer—open to all students and staff—on Sunday, Oct. 14 from 8-11 p.m. in Parmer Hall. Counselors and Messiah pastors will be available Sunday evening and through the week for students who would like to process or talk through this situation further.

Please remember to pray for Ethan’s family and friends, that they may experience God’s comfort, peace and guidance during this time of profound grief and loss.
