This family had one wish at the top of their list: more natural light in the kitchen.

So we designed an addition positioned to catch the sun all day long — and gave it a cathedral ceiling to make room for a full wall of windows. Glossy handmade tile runs all the way up to bounce the light around, while olive-sage cabinetry and brass cup pulls keep things warm and grounded below.

Now the sunniest room in the house is the one where they spend the most time. That's the power of getting the architecture right first.

Holding onto summer for one more weekend.

This back deck was designed for exactly this — the long, unhurried Saturdays at the end of the season. A pass-through window bar with woven bistro stools keeps the kitchen connected to the party, while cable railing lets the view do the talking. Underfoot, warm wood decking against crisp white vertical skirting — that classic New England contrast we never tire of.

Wherever this weekend takes you, we hope it looks a little like this: bare feet, a full table, and no reason to go inside.

September mornings hit different in a kitchen this calm. Creamy shaker cabinetry, a sage handmade-tile backsplash, and a pot filler standing by for the first soup of the season. Summer citrus still on the counter — but we're easing into cozier days.
