Tufts University Film and Media Studies Program

Tufts University Film and Media Studies Program Welcome to the Facebook home of the Film and Media Studies Program at Tufts!

The Film and Media Studies Program at Tufts University teaches media literacy through the liberal arts. Students learn about the history, theory, production, and cultural importance of film, television and other media. And, in fulfilling the FMS major or minor, students will become a more discerning and active user of media — able to understand and employ them as powerful art forms that can change

society for the better. To receive our weekly program update, subscribe to our email list: https://bit.ly/FMS-SignUp

Todd Berliner is Professor of Film Studies at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where he teaches film aesthetics, narration, style, and American film history. On February 26th, 2026, his talk on Orson Welles’ film TOUCH OF EVIL brought a unique and knowledgeable perspective to what he calls “The Art of Rearrangement,” focusing on the Second Long Take and the Aesthetic of Fluidity within the film. We were honoured to have the two-time Fulbright Scholar Professor Berliner’s insight and time here at Tufts for this engaging community event.

POV: You’re mid-shift in the FMS equipment room…and a Bollywood icon walks in. 🤯✨

Tufts alum and acclaimed actress Amisha Patel (A97) stopped by FMS during a nostalgic return to campus 🐘 After graduating from Tufts in 1997, Amisha made her acting debut in 2000 with "Kaho Naa...Pyaar Hai" and went on to build an impressive career in Bollywood. She’s also a proud recipient of the Tufts P.T. Barnum Award, honoring outstanding achievement in media and entertainment.

FMS student Amba Raghavan welcomed her for an impromptu tour of Barnum Hall and shared details about our incredible FMS program! 🎬 Amba is a student filmmaker who is currently working on her senior thesis documentary film, which she will be filming in India this spring 💙🤎
