Professor Babak Moaveni was recently named an ASCE Engineering Mechanics Institute Fellow, in recognition of his outstanding research, accomplishments, and service to the Institute. Congratulations to Professor Moaveni!

Professor Babak Moaveni of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Tufts University was elected to the Engineering Mechanics Institute (EMI) Membership grade of Fellow. Moaveni and the 2023 class of Fellows were recognized during the awards ceremony at the EMI Conference in July.

Assistant Professor Jonathan Lamontagne and colleagues published an op-ed in the Boston Globe calling for a statewide approach to flood control infrastructure.

The state currently relies on a piecemeal approach, but cities and towns have limited ability to act effectively on their own. Most of their coastlines are privately owned and there are few options for raising funds locally to pay for costly flood control infrastructure.
