Florida Tech Ocean Engineering Ocean Engineering - The application of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Physics and Computer Science to the Ocean.

Ocean engineering is a multidisciplinary field of technology applied to the ocean environment. It is a combination of the classical engineering disciplines such as civil, mechanical and electrical engineering, with naval architecture and applied oceanography. The Ocean Engineering Program began in 1972 when the Department of Oceanography became the Department of Oceanography and Ocean Engineering.

The Program became ABET/EAL accredited in 1980. The Master of Science degree program in Ocean Engineering was established in 1977 and the Doctor of Philosophy degree program began in 1987.
