Florida Tech’s College of Aeronautics was fortunate to host the FAA’s Portable Reduced Oxygen Training Enclosure (PROTE) on campus. This mobile chamber is used for hypoxia training for pilots by providing simulated high-altitude conditions. This training is immensely valuable for a pilot to understand how their own body reacts in hypoxic conditions, with each participant able to identify their personal physiological symptoms.

We are grateful to the FAA for hosting the event on campus and allowing over 250 participants to experience the training. Florida Tech currently also offers students an elective course in aviation physiology where students are able to experience similar training in a hypo/hyperbaric chamber.

The COA prides itself on giving students an immersive and well rounded aviation education and look forward to more such opportunities every year!

Florida Tech College of Aeronautics students, faculty and alumni were once again making our presence know in the airport industry with a large representation at this week’s AAAE conference! Students got to network with industry experts and learn about all the great innovations happening around the country!

COA also had an extra special moment at the conference related to the AAAE Chair position. Rebecca Hupp, COA alumna and outgoing AAAE Chair, hands over to Marshall Stevens, COA alumnus, as the incoming Chair. Two amazing representations of the Florida Tech’s College of Aeronautics! We could not be prouder of both of them!
