Most people think getting a PhD means putting your life on hold.
Alexa Hetzel decided to do it differently. 🎓
At 28, Alexa lives in Las Vegas, teaches public speaking at UNLV, works part-time for a PR firm, has a husband and a dog and is pursuing her PhD in Journalism and Strategic Media at the University of Memphis through UofM Global.
She originally planned to work in broadcast journalism. But while earning her master’s at UNLV, she discovered something she didn’t expect:
She loved teaching.
Now, Alexa hopes to become a professor and make an impact in the classroom.
Moving across the country for a PhD wasn’t an option, so she found another way forward.
Through UofM Global, Alexa can pursue her degree while continuing to live, work and teach in Nevada.
Her advice to other students?
💬 “Go at your own pace.”
There’s no one right timeline for education. Sometimes the best path is the one that fits the life you’ve already built.
Welcome to the University of Memphis, Alexa!
We’re glad you’re here. Online. On your time.💙
