One of six departments in the College of Communication and Fine Arts, the Department of Communication includes 19 full-time faculty members, about 50 graduate students (MA and PhD), and 300 undergraduate majors. We offer the undergraduate Communication Studies concentration at the main campus, the Lambuth campus, and online, and the Film & Video Production concentration at the main campus. Our gra

duate programs at the main campus include an MA in Film & Video Production, as well an MA and PhD in Communication, with emphases in rhetoric, health communication, and media. Our mission is to prepare you to take your place as the next generation's scholar and leader.

Meet Prof. Alex Willemin. He joins our department from Jacksonville University, and he'll be teaching courses in film and video production. Prof. Willemin is an independent filmmaker who has written, directed, and produced his own projects. His work has been featured in international and domestic festivals.

Please join us in congratulating ✨👩‍🎓 Dr. L’Oreal Jarvis Stephens 👩‍🎓✨ on the successful defense of her dissertation- “They Were More than Numbers: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis of COVID-19 Grief and Social Media Mourning Experiences”.

She completed her successful dissertation defense on the evening of Friday, July 31st, 2026.
