Remember that September is Save Your Photos Month, and that’s what the Brother I. Leo O’Donnell Archives strives to do. Archives are all about preservation and making history public. Some of our oldest photos are from the 1870s, over 100 years old!

In 1878, refugee camps were set up to protect people from the yellow fever. The Brothers kept records and attended Mass at the camp. In fact, Brother Maurelian Sheel, first president of CBC, caught and recovered from the yellow fever. He pushed for the Brothers to move out of city limits and requested federal involvement, contacting President Rutherford B. Hayes directly. His photo is from the 1980s.

Happy September of Service CBU! This month is all about serving our community, so let’s take a look at a small fraction of the people who served CBU. Many of the buildings and places on campus have been named in honor prolific supporters including Ed Barry, John Canale, and Rosa Deal. Here are photos of them in front of their namesakes!

Ed Barry, Bill Whitman, Brother Leopold, Jeff Gros, and Sam Bates stood in front of the Christian Brothers College Administration Building (which would later be named Barry Hall in honor of Barry) in the 1960s.

President Brother Theodore Drahmann and Mr. and Mrs. John D. Canale, Jr. are at the dedication of the Canale Pool, which was named after John D. Canale, Sr. in 1980s.

Rosa Deal and Brother Robert Werle are in the Deal Courtyard, named in Professor Deal's honor in the 2000s. The School of Arts Building is also named after her.

Welcome Back Bucs! We’re glad to see new and familiar faces this semester. Here’s a post honoring our mascot Bucky the Buccaneer and the honorary library mascot Polly.

The Gold Chalk Statue of Bucky is likely from the 1960s, the Buccaneer Toby Jug was presented by Penny Baker in 1969, and Polly Plough joined us at the library last year!
