This fall, our graduate Creative Writing courses invite students to think beyond the page and into the broader literary world.
In ENGL 7485: Literary Arts Programming, Prof. Courtney Santo guides students through the process of editing, producing, and marketing a literary magazine, offering hands-on experience in shaping how writing reaches its audience.
In ENGL 7602: Fiction Workshop, also taught by Prof. Santo, students focus on the art of the ending, exploring how structure and tone shape the final moments of a story and leave a lasting impression.
These courses offer a dynamic space to refine craft while engaging the creative and professional dimensions of literary work.

This fall, our Applied Linguistics courses highlight the power of data-driven approaches to understanding language.
In ENGL 4805: Corpus Linguistics and Language Analysis, Dr. J. Elliott Casal introduces undergraduate students to the tools and techniques used to study language through real-world textual data, revealing patterns in how language is used across contexts.
In ENGL 7/8507: Empirical Methods in Applied Linguistics Research, Dr. Casal guides graduate students to engage in research design, data collection, and analysis in an online environment, building the methodological foundations needed to conduct rigorous, impactful studies.
Together, these courses emphasize how evidence-based inquiry can deepen our understanding of language in use.

This fall, our English Department invites students to explore the many ways storytelling takes shape across genres ✨

In ENGL 4600: Creative Nonfiction Workshop, students engage with the possibilities of nonfiction through critical approaches, drafting, and revision, transforming lived experience into compelling narrative.

Dr. Eric Schlich’s ENGL 4603: Fiction Workshop focuses on the craft of contemporary short fiction, guiding students through analysis, drafting, and revision as they develop their own stories.

In ENGL 4605: Forms of Fiction, also taught by Dr. Schlich, students return to foundational fairy tales as inspiration, reimagining familiar narratives while exploring how tradition and creativity intersect.

Together, these courses offer a dynamic space for writers to experiment, reflect, and bring new stories to life.
