The Freshwater Collaborative summer hires have been working hard on their projects lately. Shelby Kraco is doing some initial surveys of the leftover sand/gravel mine ponds at Dobbs Landing and the Colfax Preserve. They are assessing macroinvertebrate community diversity, water quality, and the bathymetry of three ponds. Looking forward to seeing the results!

Dr. Chapman’s BIO 343 Applied Plant Science class was excited to share their projects on growing native plants from seed at Research Day yesterday! In general, they learned that germinating these species from seed can be tricky. Experiments don’t always turn out the way you had hoped, but there’s still plenty to learn from failure!
