โœ… Managed 115 interns
โœ… Developed a Business Administration Playbook for future interns
โœ… Traveled to Syracuse, New York, to support project-related work
โœ… Observed on-site testing for a $100 billion, 680-acre-plus project
โœ… Strengthened her professional skills through real-world experience

That's just a snapshot of Katelynn Peterson's summer internship experience. As a supply chain management major, Katelynn served as one of the first business administration interns at Michels Corporation in Lomira, where she gained hands-on experience and contributed to meaningful projects.

She also credits UW-Stout Polytechnic for helping prepare her for success:

"The Career Conference Week that Stout hosts twice a year has so much potential for any individual, with any opportunity, in any major. The engaging, hands-on courses are informative and provide both soft skills and technical skills."

Experiences like Katelynn's show how internships can help students build professional skills, expand their networks and gain confidence before graduation.

Not every student arrives at college knowing exactly what they want to do, and that's OK.

When Owen Whitney was a freshman, he was undecided and unsure of his career path.

"By listening to the students and teachers around me, I slowly started to narrow down what I wanted to do," he said. "I especially want to credit one person: Kelly Wenig, my first-year advisor. He worked with me throughout my first year to help me develop a plan and commit to something."

Through conversations with students and teachers, Owen found opportunities that helped shape his future, including a summer internship at Great Northern Corporation in Chippewa Falls.

As an intern, he identified areas for improvement within the company, developed solutions, and led projects to help implement those changes.

Looking back on his college journey, he offers reassurance to other students who may still be figuring things out:

"It took me two years, and Iโ€™m still not entirely sure what I want to do. But Iโ€™ve learned that itโ€™s OK not to have everything figured out."

Owen's story is a reminder that growth happens one step at a time, and that internships can be a valuable way to explore interests, build confidence, and gain real-world experience.
