For our last Throwback Thursday we are featuring Megan! Megan Droste graduated in 2008 with a major in family and consumer science and a minor in Spanish and coaching. Megan was the director of alumnae relations and then moved to become the director of philanthropy for Alpha Phi. She started our annual Red Dress Gala! After attending conference with the executive board, Megan felt so inspired and thought “why not us—we should do a gala!” Since then our Red Dress Gala has raised money in support of women’s heart health, with our most recent one raising over $14,000! The professional and philanthropic skills that Megan has learned through her time in Alpha Phi has helped her in her future. She was named the regions top 20 under 40 community members, has been nominated for the Gold Star Teacher Award, and her biggest accomplishment, her family.

“I LOVED my time in Alpha Phi and the opportunities I took advantage of (and created) — what a powerful experience working alongside amazing women to do great things! I’ve continued that motto into my professional and personal life and love seeing the work continue.”

Gabriella Stone graduated in 2023 with a major in hotel, restaurant, and tourism management. In Alpha Phi she was a red dress gala co-chair, director of events, director of primary recruitment, director of sisterhood, Panhel delegate, and president! She is now an event coordinator and is still involved in Alpha Phi. She is an advisor for UW-Madison and for the University of Puget Sound.

Karen McChesney Howe was initiated into Gamma Sigma chapter of Alpha Phi in the spring of 1969. She was on Pom Pom Squad, Phi Sigma Sweetheart and Winter Carnival Queen. Karen has gone on to be apart of Alpha Phi in numerous ways including being an Advisor for the University of Minnesota chapter, serving on the advisory board for the Alpha Phi Quarterly, the Foundation chair for 1 year, the Co-Chair of the Alumnae Strategy Team and much more. Karen endowed the Alpha Phi Gamma Sigma Chapter Scholarship in 2018.

“My favorite memories in Alpha Phi are my initiation day, all the exchanges and then years later, flying to Des Moines to surprise my daughter as she was being initiated into the Gamma Omicron Chapter of Alpha Phi at Drake University in 1993 and placing her badge on her. The long term sisterhood relationships that I made when joining Alpha Phi are so important. I still have my original group from freshman year (we travel every year). There might be 4 years of college but you can have a lifetime Alpha Phi!”

Red Dress Gala is one of our favorite events of the year and we wanted to thank everyone who came and supported the Alpha Phi Foundation ✨🧸 Thank you for your continued support as we work alongside the Alpha Phi Foundation to make advancements in women’s heart health. This past weekend our executive board had the opportunity to attend the Alpha Phi Leadership Conference in Denver, Colorado! Our APhi’s learned a lot about their positions and are leaving feeling so inspired✨🧸🤍 They left with an award for Outstanding Member Education and Programming.
