Congratulations, Corrin!!😍😍

It's time to celebrate our Advanced Field Student of the Year!! Congratulations to Corrin Charlson, placed at Christian Family Solutions St. Marcus School!!

This is from Corrin's nomination...
"Corrin has consistently taken on a proactive approach in her Internship by taking initiative, seeking and using our feedback, and treating her internship as if it was a professional role rather than a requirement for school. Corrin took on some challenging cases, engaged with staff and students at St Marcus, and applied her learning to help her clients. She demonstrated exceptional professionalism and reliability throughout her internship, even going above and beyond her required hours to continue a consistent schedule throughout the school year. She managed a high caseload during the school year, while also accepting additional challenges and growth opportunities (sharing presentations, facilitating social skills groups, completing research)."

Congratulations, Hannah!!! 😍😍

05/20/2026

It's time to celebrate our Generalist Field Student of the Year!! Congratulations to Hannah Spurlock, placed at Family Counseling and Shelter Services of Monroe County!

Here's Hannah's nomination:
Hannah deserves the Field Student of the Year award because she has always gone above and beyond our expectations of her. If our administrative assistant is sick, Hannah goes above and beyond by answering the phone, checking clients in, taking payment if they have a co-pay and volunteering for various other needs without even being asked to help Hannah also stepped up and took over the supervised visitation program when there was no longer a facilitator to run the program. This program is a great deal of work and involves court reports, with an emphasis on every detail. Hannah is extremely organized and she put a lot of effort into this program. We are all very proud of her diligence and her clients (parents and children) appear to like her very much. She is warm and genuine and appears to be the "polished professional" when interviewing the parents.

It's time to celebrate our Field Awards!! Next up is Generalist Field Supervisor of the Year!! Congratulations to Madeline Wright of Milwaukee Turners at Turner Hall!!

Maddie's nomination:
Maddie did not just supervise my field placement β€” she invested in me as a whole person. From the very beginning, our relationship was not without friction. I came in as someone who defaults to independence, someone who is historically resistant to authority, and someone carrying a full life outside of placement β€” custody matters, financial strain, entrepreneurial work, and more. Maddie met all of that with patience, consistency, and genuine care. She made space in our supervision sessions for the things that had nothing to do with competency hours β€” my son's wellbeing, my financial stress, my sense of self β€” and she did it without making me feel like a burden or a problem to manage. When my son needed support, she showed up. When I needed someone to talk to between sessions, she was accessible. When there was friction early in the placement, she handled it with professionalism and took the time to understand who I was rather than simply correcting my behavior. She even disclosed her own personal struggles to create connection and model vulnerability, which shifted something in me permanently. What makes Maddie exceptional is not just that she fulfilled the role of field supervisor β€” it is that she redefined what that role could look like. She made it easy for someone like me, someone who does not give trust easily and does not ask for help readily, to be supervised, advised, and genuinely mentored.

It's time to celebrate our Field Awards!! Next up is Advanced Field Supervisors of the Year!! Congratulations to Tracy Wellner & Melissa Block from Milwaukee VA Medical Center!!

Here are a few words from their nomination:
"To the team at the VA Hospital in Milwaukee, Zablocki Center (Tracy Wellner & Melissa Block), you all have made a huge impact on my journey as a student and on my path into my career as a professional. I was gifted with great field instructors who led me to learn hands-on what a hospital social worker does for not only their clients, but themselves for self-care. Not only have I learned how to engage with clients, but I have also learned how to be more empathetic through the lived experiences of the veterans that I met. At times, there has not been a right and wrong answer. Yet, each of my field instructors has strengthened my critical thinking as a student to create self-awareness surrounding the decision-making process throughout ethical dilemmas. I am grateful for the time that I have had at the VA Hospital, as I can proudly say that I can go into the workforce with the social work skills that I have gained in confidence.

It's time to celebrate our Field Awards!! Next up is Field Supervisors of the Year--it was a tie!! Congratulations to Beth Thorson of Bread of Healing Clinic AND Mary Knetter of Advocates of Ozaukee!! πŸ‘πŸ‘

Nominated by Jeremiah Crawford, Beth Thorson's field student, here's why he thought Beth deserved this honor...
"If there were a field instructor of the century award, Beth would be the clear choice. Over the past ten months, she has been more than just a teacherβ€”she has been a beacon of inspiration and a living example of what it means to be a caring, supportive, and empathetic social worker. Beth is not only my mentor but also someone I deeply admire. One day, I hope to walk the path she has so gracefully paved."

Nominated by Casey Turnmeyer, Mary Knetter's field student, here's why Casey thought Mary deserved this honor...
"Mary is truly one of the best people I have met in the field so far. The way she is able to explain things and provide a safe space for interns to process through emotions and ask questions is beyond anything I have experienced. She is patient and cares deeply about all of us not just as students but also as people."

Congratulations Beth and Mary!
