Established in August 2006, we are a Community Service group under Rotary International. We take part in community service events like making houses for the needy (Habitat For Humanity), Feeding the homeless, and volunteering at the SPCA animal shelter etc. We also help with international projects like raising money to help clothe kids, raise cancer awareness, etc. This year we will not stop there
, we will also have socials for families and the club as a whole to bond. We're doing this so that the members wouldn't get burnt out from doing community service all the time. Also, our Rotaract club will be unique in a sense that the structure of the club is different. Once a member joins the club, he/she will be set up with a family. Families are groups of members within the club and there will be around 5 or so families (depends on how many members we have). How it will work is that it will be a competition (Friendly competition I hope) for points. Families get points by their members going to events, meetings or if the family plans an event. There are ways to get bonus points as well, but we will talk about that more in depth later on. The family with the most points at the end of the year will win a free trip provided by the club. This is a reward for the best family that year because of course, they worked the hardest. Individual members will also get points for themselves in the process. And how this works is that when they cross a certain threshold of points (say 50 points), they will get a special reward.. in this case maybe being a special Rotaract Pin, etc. The top people with the most points that year will have a chance to go to Portugal for the Rotaract/Rotary International Conference. This will be talked about more in depth later on as well. I feel that with all these, people will be motivated to work harder and have a great time with us here in Rotaract. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to leave a comment. For more background information about Rotaract:
Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs are either community or university based, and they’re sponsored by a local Rotary club. This makes them true "partners in service" and key members of the family of Rotary. As one of Rotary’s most significant and fastest-growing service programs, with more than 8,400 clubs in about 170 countries and geographical areas, Rotaract has become a worldwide phenomenon. How does it work? All Rotaract efforts begin at the local, grassroots level, with members addressing their communities’ physical and social needs while promoting international understanding and peace through a framework of friendship and service.
