Hey all,

I came across this.

I think it is an interesting change in the law and since some of you may be thinking about your seminar paper, this is an interesting topic. This is the link to the bill (https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2017/128/BillText/er/PDF)

Florida Governor Rick Scott signed amended "stand your ground" legislation on Friday, making it easier for defendants in the state to successfully claim they were protecting themselves when they commit violence.

Good evening ALL,

I hope you are enjoying the summer break. I wish it was longer too. Please see the important message below Dean Hernandez sent about the upcoming summer schedule:

"Summer classes begin tomorrow (Wednesday, May 24, 2017). Classes meet their regular times/days on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Then on Monday, May 29, 2017 classes do NOT meet (it is Memorial Day). Classes resume on Tuesday, May 30, 2017. The class schedule for next week is as follows:

Monday – No Classes
Tuesday – Regular Tuesday schedule
Wednesday – Monday classes meet. If a class meets Monday and Wednesday, this makes no difference. But if a class meets ONLY on Wednesday, it will not meet on 5/31.
Thursday – Regular Thursday schedule
Friday – Regular Friday Schedule"

Make sure you start the semester on the right foot., Good luck in your classes.

Notice to All Law Students:

Due to a potential lack of integrity in the SBA election this past weekend, we feel that it is the just and fair thing to hold the elections again. None of the candidates for any of the offices acted in any way to create this concern. We also want to point out to the student body the importance of participating in this process. The SBA President, in particular, in viewed by the Administration as a representative of the student body. He/she consults with the Administration and is often asked to represent the law student body at the University level. He/she also receives a significant financial stipend for fulfilling these obligations. The SBA is given student funds to distribute to the various student organizations, and to cover the cost of student’s traveling as representatives of St. Thomas Law to other events and meeting. The Treasurer of the SBA has to oversee much of this process.
To insure a clean and fair process we are holding the elections again this Thursday 3/16 via Survey Monkey. You must use your student ID number to vote. The voting will be open from 12;01 am on Thursday until 11:59 pm on Thursday. We are also including ballots for 1L Professor of the Year, Upper Level Professor of the Year and Staff Person of the Year. We hope you will also vote in these categories as appropriate. The Professors and Staff consider selection by this process quite a distinction.
The winners of the SBA elections will be announced on Friday, 3/17/17 in a way that preserves the integrity of the process.

The winners for Professors and Staff of the Year are announced at the Barrister’s Ball.
