AI is changing the way law is practiced, and FIU Law is expanding its efforts to prepare students for that reality.

Through the work of the FIU Law AI Task Force, new legal technology resources, faculty guidance, and expanded access to AI-powered research tools, the College is expanding opportunities for students to build legal technology competencies while understanding the ethical and professional responsibilities that come with using these tools.

FIU Law’s Class of 2029 is making history.

This year’s entering class is the most academically accomplished in the College’s history, setting new institutional records for median LSAT and undergraduate GPA. The 171-member class was selected from more than 3,300 applicants during FIU Law’s most competitive admissions cycle to date.

Today, FIU Law hosted a JAG panel featuring military attorneys from across the United States Armed Forces, including FIU Law alumni Air Force Major Janessa Brito and USMC Captain Nathan Wrenn.

Moderated by Vice Dean Eric R. Carpenter, the panelists shared their paths into military legal service and gave students a closer look at what it is like to serve as a JAG officer.

Students also had the opportunity to ask questions about the application process, differences in duties across the service branches, and what led each panelist to choose their branch of the military.

Earlier this semester, Professor André Gordon joined Professor Jordan Dollar's Law Firm Management course as a guest lecturer for a presentation titled "Reputation Is Currency and Strategic Digital Impact." During the session, Gordon shared practical strategies for managing one's professional reputation, leveraging social media effectively, and building meaningful professional relationships.

He encouraged students to be intentional about the connections they cultivate throughout their careers and to embrace opportunities that push them beyond their comfort zones. The discussion provided students with valuable insights into the growing importance of digital presence, networking, and personal branding in the legal profession.

Faculty, staff, and students explored current AI adoption, emerging trends, and the skills future lawyers will need as the profession continues to evolve.

Yesterday evening, FIU Law hosted a reception welcoming Interim Dean Daniel Z. Epstein. Members of the FIU community, lawyers, judges, alumni, and friends of the College came together to celebrate his appointment and the start of the academic year.
