Florida Educational Facilities Planners' Association, Inc. (FEFPA) is seeking deserving Florida college students - in a facilities planning related field, e.g., architecture and interior design - to receive cash awards for the 2021-2022 academic year.

$6,000 in scholarships will be divided into first place $3,000, second place $2,000 and third place $1,000.

Application deadline for the 2020-2021 academic year is June 1, 2021 at fefpa.org/scholarship

Join us for our next edition of SOA in the Park tonight April 8, at 7:30 p.m! We’ll be hosting a DESIGN MOVIE NIGHT: The Human Scale by Jan Gehl (1h32m) 🍿🎥

50 % of the world’s population lives in urban areas. By 2050 this will increase to 80%. Life in a mega city is both enchanting and problematic. Today we face peak oil, climate change, loneliness and severe health issues due to our way of life. But why? The Danish architect and professor Jan Gehl has studied human behavior in cities through 40 years. He has documented how modern cities repel human interaction, and argues that we can build cities in a way, which takes human needs for inclusion and intimacy into account.

Helpful tips:
✅ Masks required
✅ First come, first serve basis
✅ Bring your own yoga mat, blanket or towels and set up in pre-labeled, socially-distanced spots.
✅ Popcorn + water bottles provided!

FIU SOA Decolonizing Design Lecture Series

“On Borders: The Activist Architect” panel brings together activist architects and designers focused on questions of borders and walls. The topic spans from the Iron Curtain - the wall dividing Europe during the Cold War - that came down in 1989 through to the wall on the Southern border of the United States, that has become a lightning rod for political debates in recent years. But it also addresses more generally the militarization and politicization of borders.
Moderated by Neil Leach (FIU), with panelists Ronald Rael (UC Berkeley/Rael San Fratello), Teddy Cruz and Fonna Forman (UCSD/Estudio Teddy Cruz + Fonna Forman), Doina Petrescu and Constantin Petcou (University of Sheffield/Atelier d’Architecture Autogérée), Ana Maria Duran Calisto (Yale/Estudio A0).
