Immersive study abroad programs in 16 countries allow participants in the Schools Abroad to live the The Middlebury C.V.

Starr Schools Abroad have more than 50 years of experience in providing academically challenging immersion programs and operate programs in 37 cities and 17 countries. Students come from a wide range of academic fields and take courses in most disciplines, often alongside host-country students; intern or engage in volunteer work; and live with a family or local residents. At every juncture, students are encouraged to immerse themselves in the host culture and language.

🇫🇷 Stay Local | Coco & friends in Paris 🇫🇷

“In our perfume-making atelier at Parfumerie Galimard, founded in 1747 and one of the oldest parfumeries in France, we designed our own personalized perfumes with the help of the expert perfumers. We learned the methods of perfume making and about the history of the practice. We learned how to build a scent from the base, to the heart, to the head notes, and we were able to pick multiple scents to combine for each of the three layers, resulting in our own unique creations. We had a fun time learning the French names of different familiar scents as we were choosing our combinations, such as musc, fleur d’oranger, verveine, and bouton de rose.“

🇲🇦 Stay Local | Elizabeth in Rabat 🇲🇦

I invited a language partner who is part of our program, Houssam, to go kayaking on Sunday. This activity was a fun, immersive way to see certain significant buildings in Rabat while also enjoying a fundamental part of Rabat: the water. Since the kayaking business was family owned, we had such sweet moments with the mom helping us— she even lent me her shoes because I didn’t have sandals.

🇦🇷 Stay Local | Lucy in Buenos Aires 🇦🇷

“My friend Ellie and I went to a soccer game in Buenos Aires at the iconic La Bombonera stadium. It was an amistoso internacional, a friendly game against Mauritania, and since this is also the year of the World Cup, the energy was incredible. There was never a silent moment in the stadium, even before the game started. People of all ages were screaming and cheering, including the tiny baby in front of me already representing in her Argentina jersey, just taking it all in. There are countless chants that everyone seems to know, creating such a strong sense of community… This experience showed me how deeply rooted soccer is in everyday life in Argentina and how it brings people from all over together. Vamos Argentina!”

Congratulations to Benjamin Sindell, Middlebury Class of 2026, for receiving one of 30 Lafayette Fellowships awarded for graduate study in France! Benjamin will be studying interior architecture at l’École des Arts Décoratifs - PSL next year. Benjamin spent the 2024-25 Academic Year in Paris at the Middlebury School in France. Félicitations, Benjamin!
