The Wesleyan McNair Program assists students from underrepresented
groups in preparing for, entering, and progressing successfully through post-
graduate education. The program provides guidance, study space with a computer room, research opportunities, and academic and financial support to students planning to go on to PhDs.All fields of research are eligible, but the focus is on math and scienc

e. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program, funded by the US Dept. of Education, is for students who are:

- first generation college students from low-income families, OR
- African-American
- Hispanic,
- Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander,
- Native American. Applications are now being accepted from frosh, sophs, juniors, and seniors, with rolling admissions.

Our Story

Wesleyan's Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Program assists students from under-represented groups in preparing for, entering and progressing successfully through post-graduate education. Since 2007, the program has supported dozens of students many of who were first-generation college, low-income and from groups underrepresented in graduate school. The program provides guidance, research opportunities, and academic support to students planning to pursue PhDs.

Student destinations since 2007 after Wesleyan graduation include:


  • 11 students have earned a Ph.D.

  • 39 students are enrolled in Ph.D. programs
