Northwood Mock Trial

Northwood University Mock Trial is returning to the AMTA National Championship Tournament! After rounds against Colorado State University, University of Colorado, University of Illinois- Urbana-Champaign, and University of Kansas, NUMT secured a hard won bid out of the Geneva ORCs, putting them in the top 5% of teams nationwide. Three Northwood competitors won All-National Awards, including Barrett Tefft, Laina Tomei, and Conrad Waldie.

Northwood University found incredible success at the Southbend Regionals! Northwood A swept all their competition with a perfect 8-0 record and two all-regional award winners, award winning witness Conrad Waldie and first in the region attorney Barrett Tefft. Northwood B put up a good fight, coming out of the first day of competition with a 3-1 record before ultimately falling the second day to strong teams from Hillsdale and Notre Dame.

Northwood University Mock Trial had the privilege of competing at the University of Virginia's Great American Mock Trial Invitational (GAMTI) in December!

Hosted at the H. Carl Moultrie Federal Courthouse in Washington D.C., GAMTI is widely considered one of the most elite mock trial invitationals in the country. Northwood finished with a positive record after facing teams from Washington University of St. Louis, Miami University of Ohio, University of Chicago, and Princeton University, placing 9th out of 24 of the country’s most talented teams.

Climbing class continued at Case Western last weekend. Our students gained some valuable experience against strong competition. Congratulations to Maze Gusa who won attorney awards on prosecution and defense!

Great first invitational for Northwood's freshmen, we enjoyed competing with at the Michigan State Red Cedar Classic invitational.

We competed against tough teams that challenged us, and there was plenty of climbing and growing throughout the weekend. So proud and excited to say that this season is off to a wonderful start. We have so many rising stars joining the team and we are looking forward to the rest of the season.

NUMT had an incredible weekend at the first invitational of the year. Our team placed 6th overall, and we’re proud to celebrate Barrett Tefft for an Outstanding Attorney Award on both sides and Laina Tomei for earning an Outstanding Witness Award on the Prosecution for their outstanding performances! Great work Timberwolves, the season’s off to a strong start!

On May 1, Northwood University proudly hosted a memorable Law Day Luncheon, welcoming over 250 guests to campus. Chief Justice Megan Cavanagh delivered a powerful keynote, reminding us that justice is a public service that must meet people where they are. Throughout the day, students had the incredible opportunity to engage with judges, attorneys, and civic leaders—gaining insight, inspiration, and valuable connections. A huge thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this event such a meaningful celebration for the law and civic engagement.

From April 4th to 6th, Northwood University Mock Trial took the stage at the National Championship Tournament in Cleveland, OH—three days of high-stakes competition and unforgettable moments. Huge thanks to and for hosting an incredible event!
