Studying abroad is about more than seeing new places. It's about gaining confidence, expanding your perspective and discovering what's possible.

Thanks to the U.S. Department of State's Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, GCSU junior Mary Piper spent the summer studying in the United Kingdom, exploring international issues, engaging with new cultures and strengthening her plans to pursue a career in international policy law.

“I’m more confident in myself and what I want to be now,” Piper said. “The lessons I learned in the U.K. will follow me through Georgia College, law school and my profession.”

Research-ready from day one.

GCSU physics and mathematics double major Jude Doredant spent the summer conducting research at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility through the National Science Foundation's Research Experiences for Undergraduates program. There, he worked on particle accelerator simulations, presented his findings and connected with researchers in his field.

“Some students there weren’t necessarily ready to jump into the research process, but I was because we get awesome opportunities at GCSU,” Doredant said.

His experience reflects what makes research at GCSU different: students gain meaningful, hands-on experience that prepares them to contribute in professional research environments and make an impact beyond campus.

In a recent Atlanta Journal-Constitution op-ed, President Cathy Cox highlights how a liberal arts education helps students develop the skills needed to lead, adapt and make a difference, even as industries evolve and AI reshapes the workforce.

As President Cox writes, "Regardless of field, mastering the skills central to the liberal arts — critical thinking, communication, teamwork, problem-solving — serves graduates well. Those competencies adjust to emerging technologies and roll with the tides of industry shifts."

Junior physics major Addison Stuart is helping build the future. 🏗️ Through a National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Experiences for Undergraduates program at Clemson University, Stuart researched 3D-printed concrete, exploring ways to make construction materials stronger, more efficient and more sustainable.

Strong universities create strong communities.

According to a new study, Georgia College & State University generated more than $360 million in economic impact across Central Georgia last year, up more than $27 million from 2024. Reflecting the university's role as a major employer, talent pipeline and economic driver for the region, this growth comes as GCSU welcomes its largest incoming class ever this fall. Its impact continues to expand both on campus and throughout Georgia.
