Millersville Files πŸ“‚: The Story Behind the Sugar Bowl

Since opening in 1949, the Sugar Bowl has been a favorite gathering spot for generations of Marauders. Whether it was a quick bite between classes, celebrating after a big game, or catching up with friends, it's been part of the Millersville experience for decades.

🌿 Campus Pond, 1904 🌿

A favorite gathering place for generations of Marauders, the Campus Pond has been part of the Millersville experience for well over a century. This photograph from 1904 shows students enjoying a leisurely row across the pond, taking in the beauty of campus from a much different perspective.

While the buildings, pathways, and faces around it have changed over the years, the Campus Pond remains a timeless landmark and a connection to Millersville's rich history. From quiet reflection to memorable walks with friends, it has been a constant presence in campus life for more than 120 years.

πŸ€ Millersville Basketball Team, 1902 πŸ€

More than a century before today's Marauders took the court, these student-athletes helped establish the foundation of basketball at Millersville. Pictured here is the 1902 basketball team, proudly posing with a ball marked "MSNS 02," representing the Millersville State Normal School.

Basketball was still a relatively new sport at the time, having been invented just a decade earlier. Yet Millersville students quickly embraced the game, making it an important part of campus life and school spirit.

πŸ“– Photos like this remind us that the tradition of teamwork, competition, and Marauder pride has deep roots stretching back more than 120 years.

We're taking a trip back to 1950 to celebrate the alumni who wore the jersey before today's players. Thank you to every generation that has helped shape our football legacy.

Let's cheer on the team as a new season begins and we take on Glennville State tonight! πŸˆπŸ‘

🎭✨ Big congratulations to Ashley Calderon '23 on being cast as Trisha in the national tour of Boop! The Musical!

A Millersville theatre major and music minor, Ashley was active in University Theatre and campus productions during her time on campus. Now, she's taking that talent to audiences across the country as part of a national touring production.

🎢 Millersville Mandolin Club, 1901 🎢

More than 125 years ago, music was already an important part of student life at Millersville. Pictured here is the Mandolin Club of 1901, a group of student musicians who brought entertainment, fellowship, and school spirit to campus through their performances.

This photograph appeared in the 1901 Millersvillian, the name that replaced the Wickersham as Millersville's student yearbook. Through its pages, generations of Marauders have documented campus life, preserving the stories, traditions, and experiences that connect students across the decades.

🌳 Shenk's Lane, circa 1900

More than a century ago, this tree-lined road welcomed students, faculty, and visitors arriving at Millersville. Long before the steady flow of cars and campus traffic we know today, Shenk's Lane offered a quiet entrance to the University, framed by towering trees and wooden fences.

As we continue our journey through Millersville's history, photos like this remind us how much has changed and how much has stayed the same. While the landscape has evolved, the spirit of learning and community that defines Millersville remains as strong as ever.

πŸ“– Join us as we explore the people, places, and stories that shaped our campus through the decades.

πŸ“Έ Millersville University, 1899

Take a step back in time with this view of the Library and Science Hall, two of the campus's earliest landmarks.

Join us as we explore the history of Millersville University through the years. Before the Touchstone was called the Touchstone, the campus had the Wickersham, named after a founding father.

The Science Hall, the building in the background, no longer stands. After serving students for decades, it was demolished, and today the site is home to Dilworth Hall, continuing the tradition of learning and discovery on campus.

What are some other changes to the university that you remember occurring?
