The King and Queen buildings (Concourse Corporate Center V and VI) in Sandy Springs, Georgia, are lit in blue and green, typically on May 17, to mark World NF Awareness Day, supporting the Children's Tumor Foundation and CureNFwithJack. These iconic 34-story, blue-glass twin towers feature white lattice "crowns" that are illuminated with shifting colors, often showing blue/green to "Shine a Light on NF". The buildings are visable on the north perimeter of the 285 Atlanta bypass and from GA 400 near the bypass. The young lady pictured (with the King and Queen buildings in the background) is Catherine Lee, a Legacy of GA Theta Pi (Marietta). Catherine is an NF Hero who has fought neurofibromatosis since she was about 3 years old. She is now a college sophomore! The Children's Tumor Foundation is one of chapter's two major service projects (the other being Loving Arms Cancer Outreach).

Here's wishing all our sisters a wonderful Month of May!
What a busy month (in addition to sorority)!
On May 5th - Cinco de Mayo / May 10th -Mother's Day / week of May 10th - National Police Officer Week / May 12th - Peace Officers Memorial Day / May 24th - Indianapolis 500 / and May 25th Memorial Day.
For Theta Pi Chapter, May is also special because May is designated as "NF Awareness Month", a global campaign to raise awareness, funds, and research for neurofibromatosis (NF). Led by organizations like the Children's Tumor Foundation, the month features "Shine a Light on NF" (wearing blue/green, illuminating landmarks) to support those with NF1, NF2, and Schwannomatosis. Among the illuminations in the Atlanta Metro are the "King & Queen" buildings on the north perimeter, which are glowing in the night with blue/green lighting.
The Children's Tumor Foundation is a Theta Pi service project each year as well as an International Endowment Project that is regularly put forward by GA Theta Pi (Marietta) for funding by International. Research is offering new treatments and getting closer to finding that all-important cure!

In April, Theta Pi Chapter Service Chair, Shirley Mensching, presented a check for $1,500 to her daughter, Melissa Lee, Chair of the "NF Walk - Atlanta", as Theta Pi's annual donation to The Children's Tumor Foundation. For information about CTF and the search for a cure for neurofibromatosis, visit this website: https://www.ctf.org/

The funds donated were raised through sales of fresh Georgia Pecans by chapter members to other Beta Sigma Phi sisters (within Metro Atlanta Council and outside of our council), local organizations, family members, friends, neighbors and co-workers. Special thanks to members of Loving Arms Cancer Outreach (another of our service project fundraising recipients) for their outstanding support through purchases of these delicious natural and chocolate-covered pecans. Theta Pi has been selling Mascot Pecans since the chapter's formation in 2019, and each year has exceeded the previous year in sales. Top sellers for 2026 were Judy Ann Conway, Shirley Mensching, Nancy Lee Garrett and Gwen Parker.

In addition to chapter donations, Shirley prepares a thick portfolio for each cycle of donations from Beta Sigma Phi's "International Endowment Fund". To date, $75,000 has been donated to The Children's Tumor Foundation through this fund!

Loving Arms Cancer Outreach is a non-profit in Cobb County, Georgia, that provides financial, emotional, and educational support to cancer patients and their families in seven counties, including Cobb, Bartow, Cherokee, Douglas, Carroll, Paulding, and Pickens. They offer services like support groups, financial aid for utilities, groceries, and gas, free wigs, hats, and scarves, and durable medical goods, assisting those in active treatment or within 18 months of treatment completion.

The chapter also supports The Children’s Tumor Foundation with proceeds from the pecan sale. (Photo coming later.)
