Attention Marquette University's Bangladesh Student Association Members!!!
We wish to inform you that Mr. Ankan Gupta, the Secretary of the Bengali Cultural Society of Milwaukee, has recently contacted us. He has expressed a keen interest in establishing a collaboration between our association and their society, as well as in our participation in their upcoming programs. Mr. Gupta has kindly provided us with a comprehensive email outlining their proposal.
We kindly request that you review the contents of the aforementioned email and share your feedback with us by the conclusion of the current month.
Here is the email:
Good morning.
It was great talking to you all last night. I appreciate your time and sharing your thoughts to expand our Bengali community here in Milwaukee.
As discussed over the phone, I am hereby writing an email to you to explore possibilities to invite and include our fellow bengali friends, students and relatives from Bangladesh into our local bengali community Bengali Cultural Society of Milwaukee (BCSM). We strongly believe that beyond our country of origin, religious background and more such secondary variables, our primary identity is that we are Bengali.
Why BCSM?
This is the largest Bengali community in the region or the state. We nurture our cultural roots. We host diverse events round the year, that include but not limited to celebrating bangla noboborsho, Mother's Day, annual picnic, bosonto utsav (cultural), annual cultural event (performed by local bengali artists from the community), musical show (famous artists from India/Bangladesh), subsidized food drive etc.
What BCSM can try for you?
1. Foster membership from Bangladesh to expand local Bengali Community
2. Consider special pricing for student's membership
3. Consider 'student special' pricing for any social event that we host
4. Promote cultural diversity, dedicate time slots for Bangladeshi student/citizen in any cultural event that we host
5. Monthly subscription-based banking system to financially help students towards participating in any bigger/expensive event at no extra cost
6. Waiving off banking transaction fee for any online purchase
In addition, you may loop in additional people from your community into our whatsapp group. If needed, I can further listen to everyone's voice, their expectations and suggestions. Unless we emotionally get connected to each other, we wont be able to bring any resolution and come to consensus. I will be also interested in how we can include Bangladeshi participants and make our cultural program more diverse. Our next big event is celebrating Bengali Naboborsho (Boisakhi Adda) in the 2nd half of May. Very soon, we will start inviting nominations for the cultural program.
I strongly believe that by overcoming our geographical and socio-economic barriers, we Bengalis can accomplish outstanding social harmony and emerge as a distinct community in the region.
Should you have any additional thoughts or suggestions, please let me know. Also, I would highly appreciate it if you could disseminate this elsewhere such as UW Milwaukee campus or wherever applicable. As discussed last night, I would appreciate it if you could get back to me with specific expectations by the end of the month (sooner the better). As you may imagine, we have a substantial attendance (200+) for any given event and it requires logistic planning well in advance. If we aim to build our relationship effectively from 'Boisakhi Adda/Naboborsho Celebration', we need to decide and act fast. As you may understand, 'membership' will be imperative and 'prerequisite' for securing any special pricing/initiative and future partnership.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely and Respectfully,
Ankan Gupta, PhD
