As you may know, the Engineers Without Borders at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Chapter (EWB at UWM) to assesses, designs, and builds water distribution and sanitation systems with communities in the Ixil Triangle of Guatemala. Last week, hurricane Eta passed through the Ixil triangle and left the communities, our friends, in a very desperate situation.
The rains and winds from Eta have caused major flooding and landslides. Many homes have been buried or flooded including those of our close friends and colleagues. Additionally, many bridges have gone down cutting villages off from the city and in turn the food, shelter, and medical resources there. The constant rain for two weeks exasperates issues of food scarcity as many lost their crops.
Our colleague, Diego Ramirez, and his NGO called ACCMARI are currently asking for help from EWB at UWM to purchase food and other supplies until large relief efforts on the municipal and national level go into effect. If you can, please donate to this relief effort through paypal (paypal.me/EWBatUWM) or contact us at [email protected]. Any help is greatly appreciated.
