Haven't signed up for the RAK-athon yet? You still have one more week!

RAK-ATHON- Saturday, November 2nd from 8:00am-12:30pm

This is an opportunity for you to spend a few hours of your time helping out a local older adult! Volunteers will help winterize the homes of local elderly residents by doing tasks such as putting up storm windows, cleaning patios, and raking leaves. NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY, JUST A WILLINGNESS TO LEARN, HELP OUT, AND HAVE FUN! Transportation is provided for students who need it, and you have the option to sign up with a team, or as an individual! An online registration form can be found here: https://orgsync.com/33421/forms/77040. Paper registration forms are also available in our office, Union G28. The deadline to sign up is FRIDAY, OCTOBER 25TH!

NEIGHBORING OLDER ADULTS ARE DEPENDING ON YOU!

ALSO….

At this year’s RAK-athon, we will be collecting donations for the 2013 Interfaith Older Adult Holiday Party, which takes place on Saturday, December 7th. We’re looking for monetary donations (we’ll accept loose change, cash, and checks!), and/or items that can be given as gifts and prizes the day of the event (scarves, hats, everyday household items, or gift cards to Pick n’ Save and McDonalds). Your generous donations will go a long way to brighten the holiday for local older adults, many of whom do not have the disposable income for gifts this year. Anyone who donates will receive a complimentary CCBLLR T-shirt! Please bring your donations to check-in the morning of November 2nd!

Hope everyone enjoyed the game! I know we had to leave early, but at least we got to see the Sausage Race, and the Crew ended up with a W. All is well that ends well, right?!
Enjoy your last couple of weeks before summer!

From our last 'Leadership Meeting' I have handouts from Journey House. A business card from their Director of Community Relations, internship position descriptions, and a brochure of their organization. Please let me know if you would like any or all of these, or if you would like me to scan and email the info to you.

Hello everyone: Please enjoy this week's UWM Wisconsin Covenant "Scholar Spotlight": Here is a picture of Leah Brito (2nd from left) about to dominate on the rugby field, along with some information for you all to get to know her a little better:
1) Hometown: New Berlin, WI
2) UWM Major: Kinesiology (Pre-Physical Therapy): Leah got interested in the Physical Therapy field because of her competitiveness and being a student-athlete. She knows how hard it can be to be out of the sport and want to get back in, so there is that drive to help others do the same!
3) Best experience at UWM: Being a part of a very hands-on learning atmosphere in the Anatomy & Physiology Labs. Last semester she was able to build muscle-molds out of clay!
4) UWM Experience to look forward do: GRADUATION (isn't everyone!). Also, getting more into the major-related courses and past the GER's.
5) Favorite sport: Softball and rugby.
6) Favorite aspect of college atmosphere: Not as strict of guidelines as high school. Able to express herself more, especially in writing her English course papers.
7) Benefits of the WI Covenant Program: Meeting fellow scholars that are on campus. Generally other students who also have education as their priority!
8) Involvement at UWM: A number of volunteer experiences working to help ASL students and Special Education Students in local high schools (MPS and her hometown). Part of the rugby team and is trying to get involved in the Music Dept. with band (playing the Clarinet & Saxophone).
9) Why UWM: The Kinesiology and Physical Therapy Dept. Also, during her visit the people in the department were more knowledgeable than those at her other top candidate school.
10) UWM meeting expectations: Yes! Enjoying the program, the activities and also enjoys that it is so close to her hometown. Another great aspect of UWM is the great diversity on campus.

Thanks Leah!!
